Is a vasectomy right for me?

Wondering if ‘the snip’ is the right option for you? Join us as we chat about what to consider before making a decision.

A vasectomy is by far the most effective method of permanent contraception. It is much safer and more affordable than other long term contraception options such as IUD contraception.

With a 99% effectiveness rate, the chance of having an unexpected little surprise is extremely low. In fact, vasectomies are 20 times more effective than women being sterilised and 100 times more effective than other forms of contraception.

So, if you’ve completed your family or are certain that you don’t want kids, getting the snip could be the best choice of contraception options for you.

In the hands of an experienced doctor, a vasectomy is very straightforward. The minimally invasive keyhole surgery means you’ll be quick to recover and back to normal activities within a few days.

Once recovered, you’ll be glad to know that life will go on exactly as before (minus the worries!). The vasectomy will not affect your hormones, sex life, drive or performance.

Your vasectomy journey: contraception in four easy steps.

1. Prep

What is a vasectomy? Find out what’s involved and what you need to know before having the procedure. Watch a short video and have a phone consult with one of our nurses to get up to speed on what to expect and what to do. Easy peasy.

2. Snip

After a wee bit of local anaesthesia, our expert Docs will perform the modern, speedy, scalpel-free procedure, and you’ll be walking out pain-free within 30 minutes.

3. Chill

Pat yourself on the back and take the rest of the day off work. No heavy lifting or strenuous activity for a week, and you should be back to your old self in no time. No post op appointment needed but we’re always here to chat.

4. Test

Three months after your procedure, get a test either through a local lab (organised by us) or with our SpermCheck Home Testing Kit to make sure you are shooting blanks. Be sure to use other contraception options until you get the all-clear.
